Are you an experienced Head of Science or a Science teacher looking for your first head of department role?

Complete Classroom Services are working with a highly regarded school located in the diverse and vibrant borough of Barnet. With a strong commitment to academic excellence and a rich history of success, the school has consistently achieved a “Good” rating from Ofsted. They are now seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Science to join their team and lead the Science department in continuing their tradition of scientific excellence.

The Role: As the Head of Science, you will play a pivotal role in the school’s commitment to scientific education. You will lead, manage, and develop the Science department, shaping a culture of scientific inquiry, innovation, and discovery. Your leadership will inspire the students to explore the wonders of the natural world, preparing them for successful futures in the sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Science department.
  • Develop and implement a challenging and comprehensive Science curriculum that fosters curiosity and critical thinking.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of dedicated Science teachers, promoting a collaborative and engaging teaching environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective strategies.
  • Collaborate with other department heads and senior leadership to contribute to the overall school improvement plan.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments and best practices in science education, ensuring the Science department remains at the forefront of scientific teaching and learning.


  • Qualified teacher status (QTS).
  • A strong academic background with a degree in a science-related field.
  • Proven experience in teaching science, ideally with a track record of successful leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for instilling a love of science in students and helping them reach their scientific potential.
  • A deep understanding of the UK education system and science curriculum.
  • A dedication to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
