Job Overview:
The School Science Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the effective delivery of science education within the school. This position involves providing technical assistance and practical support to teachers and students in the science department. The Science Technician is responsible for maintaining and organizing laboratory equipment, preparing materials for experiments, and ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Management: Maintain and organize laboratory equipment, ensuring that it is in good working condition. This includes regular calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of scientific instruments and apparatus.
2. Resource Preparation: Prepare materials and resources required for science experiments and demonstrations, ensuring they are readily available for teachers and students. This may involve measuring, mixing, and preparing chemicals, solutions, and specimens.
3. Experiment Assistance: Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, providing guidance on the correct use of equipment and techniques. Support students in setting up experiments, recording data, and troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise.
4. Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the science laboratory. This includes maintaining a clean and safe working environment, conducting risk assessments, and implementing appropriate safety measures during experiments.
5. Inventory Management: Keep track of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and maintain an inventory system. Order necessary materials in a timely manner, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and replenished as needed.
6. Collaboration: Collaborate with science teachers to develop and improve practical activities, experiments, and demonstrations. Provide input on the suitability and availability of resources and equipment for specific lessons or projects.
7. Training and Support: Provide training and support to teachers and students on the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment and techniques. Stay updated on the latest scientific advancements and educational practices to enhance the quality of science education.
Qualifications and Skills:
– A degree or equivalent qualification in a scientific discipline is preferred.
– Previous experience working as a Science Technician in an educational setting is desirable.
– Strong knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
– Proficiency in handling and maintaining scientific equipment and apparatus.
– Excellent organizational and time management skills.
