Job Description

Job Title: Secondary School HR Manager

Location: Croydon, London

Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic HR Manager to join our secondary school located in Croydon, London. The HR Manager will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of human resources within the school environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong HR expertise and a passion for education to contribute to the success and well-being of our school community.


Human Resources Management:

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in compliance with statutory regulations and best practices.
  • Manage the recruitment and selection process for school staff, including advertising vacancies, shortlisting candidates, conducting interviews, and making recommendations for hiring.
  • Oversee the induction process for new staff members and coordinate training and development initiatives.
    Employee Relations:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, providing guidance and support to staff and management on disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Foster positive working relationships among staff members and promote a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusivity within the school community.
  • Performance Management:
  • Implement performance management systems to monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing feedback, coaching, and support as necessary.
  • Work closely with department heads and senior leadership to identify training needs and opportunities for professional development.

Compliance and Administration:

  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and safeguarding requirements, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Manage payroll processes and liaise with external payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely payment of staff salaries and benefits.
  • Prepare and submit reports to senior management and governing bodies on HR metrics, trends, and compliance issues.

Strategic planning:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s strategic objectives and priorities, particularly in areas related to staff recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify long-term HR needs and opportunities for organizational improvement and growth.


Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree its :n Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field; CIPD qualification preferred.
  • Proven experience in a similar HR management role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in HRIS software and Microsoft Office applications.
