About the role
A primary SEN School in Newham for pupils aged 5-11 with a primary diagnosis of autism (ASD).
Pupils here come from a diverse background, and many will have other associated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as ADHD, mental health, and behavioural challenges.
The work they do is both varied and challenging and, all staff are provided with extensive and on-going training and support.
Their collective approach keeps pupils and the centre of decision making, ensuring education and wider teams, parents/carers and most importantly the students can work together effectively to ensure positive outcomes for all.
The Role
This school requires resilient and empathetic practitioners who can support children with complex mental health and behavioural needs.
Pupils here engage well with therapeutic interventions and sensory stimuli.
Those with a background and/or keen interest in psychology and mental health are welcome to apply, including graduates!
SEN Teaching Assistants will:
- Support academic and emotional development.
- Deliver tailored therapeutic intervention, either 1:1 or in small groups
- Calmly de-escalate outbursts of emotional behaviour
- Demonstrate patience, empathy and resilience
- Have a willingness to learn
- Be paid £80-100 p/day, depending on experience
- Commit to working full-time. Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 4pm

You will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau) and undergo due diligence checks on social media use.
