Job Description

Complete Classroom Services are working with a dynamic SEN School in Wandsworth, committed to providing exceptional education and care to students with complex needs. We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Needs Teacher to join our team in September. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of learners with multi-sensory impairment, visual impairment, and hearing impairment. Due to the school’s supportive structure, ECTs are invited to apply too.

Role Overview:

As a Special Needs Teacher, you will support learners with complex needs, utilising sensory practices, PECS, Makaton, British Sign Language (BSL), and braille to enhance their educational experience. You will lead a class of six pupils, working closely with three experienced teaching assistants to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver tailored lessons to meet the individual needs of pupils with multi-sensory impairment, visual impairment, and hearing impairment.
  • Utilise sensory practices, PECS, Makaton, British Sign Language, and braille to support communication and learning.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where all pupils feel valued and supported.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, providing regular feedback to pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and other professionals to ensure holistic support for each pupil.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans in line with each pupil’s needs and goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and achievements.

The successful Special Needs Teacher will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or applicants looking to do their Early Career Teaching (ECT) are welcomed to apply.
  • Experience teaching pupils with complex needs, including multi-sensory impairment, visual impairment, and hearing impairment.
  • Proficiency in using PECS, Makaton, British Sign Language, and braille.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach to teaching.
  • Experience and/or qualification in British Sign Language (BSL) is ideal but not essential.
  • Access to Good References and an Enhanced DBS

You will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau) and undergo due diligence checks on social media use.
